Gold IRA Rollovers

The point of a rollover or transfer is that your savings stay inside a retirement account the whole time. The words matter, so here they are.

Transfer

Money goes directly from one custodian to another. You never hold it. This is the usual route when you are moving from an existing IRA.

Rollover

Money leaves a workplace plan, such as a 401(k), and goes into an IRA. It can go directly to the new custodian or, in some cases, through you. The direct route avoids most of the ways this can go wrong.

Which one applies to you

It depends on the account you are moving from and the rules of that plan. We help you understand the choice; your custodian confirms the mechanics; your tax professional confirms the consequences.

What people get wrong

  • Taking money out personally when a direct move was available.
  • Moving more than they meant to, because nobody asked what portion made sense.
  • Not knowing who to call once the paperwork is in motion.

Tax consequences

Every rollover has rules, and the consequences of getting them wrong are real. We do not give tax advice. Talk to a qualified tax professional before you move anything.
