Gold Spot Price and Charts
We do not show live prices on this site. Your specialist goes over current prices with you on the call. What follows is how the gold price is set and what a chart is telling you.
What “spot” means
The spot price is the going price for one plain troy ounce of gold, right now, on the large markets where banks and refiners trade. It changes through the day. Coins and bars cost more than spot because someone refined, minted and shipped them.
Why it moves
Interest rates, the strength of the dollar, what central banks are buying, and how nervous people feel. Gold tends to move opposite to confidence in paper money.
Reading a chart
A one-day chart shows noise. A one-year chart shows a mood. A twenty-year chart shows what the metal is for. If you are holding for years, look at the long chart and ignore the rest.
What it means for you
Nobody can tell you where the gold price goes next, including us. The useful question is what portion of your savings you want held as metal, whatever the price does. That is a conversation, not a chart.
